Ever heard of packaging material made of the fibres of tomato plants? Or plastic waste being used for construction materials and traffic poles? Diesel made of plastic waste or carbon capturing recycling plants…?
Waste management is not only a costly problem, but also offers various business opportunities. By understanding the size, characteristics and value of the waste streams, and how to monetize it, companies can reduce waste, create additional business and even increase their profit margins.
Good examples already exist in Kenya and elsewhere in the world. Do you have a specific challenge related to waste or already developed a successful solution? Are you looking for an international partner to innovate with, please let us know, so that we can put you in touch with your future business partner.
This matchmaking platform is a pilot of the “Climate technology Business Model Diffusion Programme”, launched by the WorldBank in February 2017. This research programme aims to test and improve the effectiveness of various matchmaking strategies between US/Europe based cleantech companies with a proven business model and Kenyan companies in search of a sustainable innovation or technology.
This matchmaking platform starts off with waste, but will eventually address a wider range of topics. The platform builds upon an existing matchmaking platform (www.futureproof.community) with more than 4000 members, developed by CSR Netherlands. The Kenyan chapter of this platform is supported by World Bank Group (InfoDev), Enclude, Growth Africa and SIB.
On circle pages, organizations, companies and events have a home for their network and sustainability focused activities. Under this umbrella, community grows and challenges get addressed. Enjoy the content, the network, and find others to work together with!
